Jen, Chris and I just returned from a day's foraging in the woods. Below is a pick of the woodland goods we brought home: acorns; rose hips; rowan berries; and crab apples. Currently we are working on removing the tannins from the acorns, not a quick task! More on what we do with these goodies over the coming days.

Foraging is cool
Mmmm - I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labours. What do you do with acorns???
Hi Janine! Well according to what I've read, you remove the tannins and then roast them. Once completely dry you can grind them (with a coffee grinder) into flour. The flour can be used to make a very earthy pasta. I've also pickled some - not sure how they will turn out.
Hey Mel,
remembered your acorn foraging when I came across this great blog. Thought you might like it.

thanks Janine! I'll check it out. We actually tried out "pickled acorns" for the first time yesterday and they tasted pretty good. I'll post abotu them in the next few weeks.
